Thank you so much Raghallaigh, Lucy and Jake for giving us such a wonderful break.  The three of you handled everything so well and I could go bush to enjoy a couple of weeks with complete peace of mind.  For anyone interested I have attached a few highlights below from tramping Rakiura (Stewart Island) and Humpridge Track in Fiordland.

Tramping in Aotearoa is always an experience, and this trip saw us on a few different adventures

First the flight to Rakiura (Stewart Island) with my tramping buddies Kim and Aileen. We spent 3 days in a fantastic BnB exploring Ulva Island and day walks around the historic populated area, before Aileen and I tackled the three-day Rakiura Great Walk. An easy walk with some amazing vistas, history and wildlife encounters – Including seeing a kiwi in the wild in daylight on Ulva Island

Our next adventure was Humpridge Track in Fiordland which is a three-day loop walk of 21km each day and the first climbing from sea level to almost 1000 m – 2600+ stairs over 8km.  My tramping buddies pulled out of this one leaving a gap for Matias to join Dana and I for the first day. (he had to return to get to Queenstown for a flight north).  Quite surreal saying farewell to Matias on a mountaintop in NZ….. Dana has put together an awesome video of each day, so hopefully the links on the pictures below will work …

Day one

Day two

Day three

These are the treks that feed my soul – this is what I work for….

Next Adventure……….. maybe return to K’gari

Happy Tramping!
